10 beautifully hand painted cow statues
Beverley Herd is a unique collection of 10 beautifully hand painted cow statues. The story behind the Beverley Herd is connected to the immediate area of Beverley, where the cows roam freely across the Westwood common land for half of the year. This sculpture trail ran alongside the ‘Time travellers Trail’ a free app based outdoor walking tour around Beverley, developed by the East Riding Theatre, along this route you could spot and collect the Herd, displayed in local shop windows with the final cow sculpture being shown on the roof of the Theatre.
During lockdown I created a fb group ‘ART & ERT’ for anyone creative. I put a call out to this group for anyone eager to participate in the Beverley Herd. These enthusiastic volunteers were each given a box of materials and guidance to create their own unique cow design. As the project took place between lockdowns, meetings and discussions were held at a distance, giving participants time to safely share ideas and explore different creative approaches. The approach and results were beautiful, interesting, humorous and creative. We finished off with a finally event at the ERT were a silent auction of the Herd raised funds for future creative projects within the Theatre (a non-profit charity) this was a very successful project and one of which I am very proud.
