Community Mural Project
For this project I worked with the year 5 pupils at Castlehill Academy in Doncaster, this community project was brought about with the Energy & Environment Institute within Hull University.
The year 5 pupils had a month of investigating flooding, water flow and how this effects their school, community and lives.
We had conversations about memory of flooding within their School then experimented with paper, water and paint and how this can move together to find patterns and shapes within shapes. Salt was then added to observe how this can absorb the water and leave textures. Small monotype pieces were made with carbon copy paper, helping create interesting marks. The final experiment was to shadow draw from nature using feltips which then made up a collection of pieces from which the group to collage together.
The mural design was inspired by all the pupil's findings. Paint days allowed for the children to have their own section of wall to complete, leaving them with a beautiful, informative and interesting 23-metre-long mural for their School.
