Magic Rain

Collaboration with Community Action

Working in collaboration with Community Action for Water and young people from the St Michael’s Project, this initiative transformed the exterior of the Thorpes Centre in Orchard Park, Hull.

This community-engaged project focused on raising awareness of rainwater recycling and its importance for sustaining local plant life. Young participants took part in a hands-on taster session, learning spray-painting techniques and creating artwork inspired by local wildlife and how rainwater is needed, and how we care for our water and the environment it supports.

I extended the mural design spanning seven walls and features a variety of suggested flowers and wild plants—often considered “weeds”—that rely on rainwater to survive and flourish. As part of the wider project, new water tanks were installed to collect rainwater, surrounded by wooden seating to create a welcoming and functional space for the community.
